The Greek philosophy has been a product of the imagination of men since the beginning of civilization. It was as ancient as the ancient Egyptian civilization. Plato, Aristotle and Plato's disciple, Plotinus, were the first people to establish the science of philosophy, which was the basis of the Greek scientific approach to life. The founders of the science of philosophy were well aware of the varied influences of nature on mankind. The influential influence of the volcanic activity on the nature of volcanoes is an important one. As the volcanic activity subsided, there was an abrupt change in the evolution of the human beings, the transition from a barbarian to a civilized species.
There is a major part of philosophy that deals with the future. Since all the philosophies follow a similar pattern, it is possible to classify the different branches of philosophy into two broad categories. One of the branches is the metaphysics. The other branch is the epistemology. Both the branches differ significantly in their outlook towards the future, and so there is the possibility of confusing the two branches when they are both discussed separately.

A survey of the various religions of the world show a continuity in the way the Greek philosophy was developed. There was a continual evolution of the philosophy that was developed in Egypt and Greece during the middle ages. At the same time there was the continuity of the Buddhism philosophy that was developed in India. But the basic elements that form the foundations of the philosophy were the Greek and Egyptian philosophy, which is still followed by the Buddhists and Hindus.
